The Tale of Moana will begin in modern day on the fictional island of Motunui, in a set design filled with hints of brilliant cultures of the Pacific Islands that will appear throughout the show. The Tale of Moana will feature puppetry that soars to mythical heights, including a fiery Te Kā on a scale Disney Cruise Line has never before produced. When Moana meets Te Kā and restores the heart of Te Fiti, the giant Te Kā puppet will shed its fiery shell and become the gentle island goddess, Te Fiti herself. As you can see from the concept art, the columns and the centerpiece atrium light fixture are designed to evoke Aladdin, while also retaining a luxurious and modern appearance. That’s a really tough needle to thread, as usually these are two very different types of architecture–I’d normally expect Agrabah to feature a lot of ornate detail, patterns, and texture. Still, I’m hopeful and optimistic that Imagineering can stick the landing on this, as the concept is really intriguing and much better, in my view, than the atrium of the Wish.

This ship’s ride is centered around a brand-new storyline for Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as they search for treasure in an ancient temple. The two-person ride vehicles carry guests from the upper decks through 760 feet of winding tubes. No specifics were provided as to the substance of the suite that’ll be pulled from the park, so it sounds probably more like it’ll be a vibe. Our expectation is that it’ll feature modern style, and maybe some geodesic patterns here or there. Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members can book a Disney Treasure cruise as early as September 12, 2023 when tired booking begins for Pearl Members, with general booking open to all on September 20, 2023. But don't despair if that's out of range, as there are much less expensive ways to sail on Disney Treasure — though with only weeklong cruises on offer, there are no bargain basement prices to be found. Outside of the maiden voyages, Disney Treasure inside-cabin fares start at $3,845 for double occupancy or $6,271 for a family of four. Verandah cabins start at close to $8,000 for a family, and concierge cabins start around $15,000.
It’s a thrilling time for the Disney Treasure as more and more pieces of the ship arrive. In my later years, I served proudly as Captain of a luxurious ocean liner, every voyage its own adventure. Part of Rolly’s larger creative concept for a “Museum of the Weird” in the Haunted Mansion, his original vision included a character that appeared to be melting like a candle.

The Disney Treasure, similar to the Disney Wish, has 1,250 staterooms, along with several restaurants, immersive spaces and experiences themed to various Disney characters and properties, including Walt Disney Pictures, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Pixar. The ship will feature a Coco-themed restaurant, a Tomorrow Tower Suite inspired by EPCOT and a Jungle Cruise-inspired lounge. I have a bunch of other layout quibbles with the Disney Wish, many of which I’m assuming won’t be resolved. The Disney Treasure was well into development by the time the Disney Wish set sail, and it was probably too late to change the core layout by that point. So I’m guessing there won’t be more elevators, added hallways, or significant shuffling of features.
